Fundamentalism is a very worrying phenomenon in various faiths. We know about fundamentalist Christians and Muslims, and now we are getting fundamentalist secularists too.
I discovered Simon Barrow's article "Facing up to Fundamentalism" while browsing the Thinking Anglicans blog. It is good reading.
Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury visited Pakistan where he gave a lecture to the Islamic University in Islamabad explaining the basics of Christianity. This is a good introduction to Christianity, carefully phrased to avoid giving offence.
The new enthroned Archbishop of York, John Sentanu, is more direct. At his enthronement in York he delivered a sermon addressed to Christians which exhorts us to become disciples of Jesus, not consumers of Christianity.
Thirdly the new Pope, Benedict the 16th, has written a treatise on Christian Love, explaining among other things that the love we have for each other is primarily our response to the love of God for us.
